Infiltration of the 'Bots'.
No, this post is not as potentially exciting as the title suggests.
Usually, monthly views of my blog are around 6000 but that changed recently. This month it got over 100,000. Well, that's good, I thought, and I must be doing something right!
Then I read of another blog writer saying he had a similar thing happen and he referred to the mysterious 'bots'. I am a bit hazy as to what these bots are and if they are benign, malign or neutral, and what caused this development. I wonder if he also recently added ads.
Thinking of variables, I monetized (allowed ads) not that long ago. It is a slow process, but over a long period of time it earns a few bucks. So, this is probably the connector. My cartoon blog, 'Joc's Cartoons' does not have ads and has not had such an increase in 'views'. So now I am thinking, do bots do any harm, do they earn me any dollars, and would I be better off cutting the ads? The ads are slightly annoying anyway. If I turn off the ads do the bots go away? Does it matter anyway, apart from giving me a distorted view of how many people are looking at my posts?
My computer and Internet savvy has limitations so anyone more knowledgeable with ideas is welcome to add his two bob's worth.
I do not have adds, but still encounter this increased number of hits by probably crawlers and search spiders anyway. I do not plan to adds either as I'm thinking it will clutter my blog. Depending on what devices one use for visiting blog, the adds can be very annoying. For instance browsing with my phone some blogs looks jammed down by adds having them cover the blogs heading and title, meaning you have to scroll to look for text which not are adds. Are there much $$ in adds?
ReplyDeleteI had ads once before. I'm not sure but I think it took a couple of years to get $100. Of course, for big social media influencers they can make considerably more.
