ACW Game, Lerroy's Farm
I dusted off the cobwebs today for a small ACW game with Mat.
We had five infantry regiments, one cavalry and two guns a side. One of the infantry, on each side, was counted as elite. The rules owed a lot to Featherstone rules. Each six men had a die for average troops. each 4 for elite and each eight for militia.
The reason some are apparently 'shooting to the side at their own side is most of the figures were four to a base so Mat tuned soe to indicate losses.
US cavalry held their left flank.Early war Yanks in grey!
Federal lines
Confedrate cavalry were used as a deterrent for any attack on my right flank. However, once my infantry units weakened the cavalry, artillery and infantry withdrew to the centre.
Confederates on my right flank.
Federal troops and wandering fowl...
My Confederates occupied more table quarters.
I should use the camera flash. Sorry some pics are blurred.
I had the Confederates whilst Mat was the Union. We were both initially, cautious. I slowly advanced on my left flank against the Federal right flank. My unit of elites did a flanking move and came out o the side of the enemy infantry and cannon. This led to the enemy units demise.
Meanwhile, Mat placed pressure on the centre and advanced against my right. Casualties were mounting.
At the end of the three hours 13 move game I had two greatly diminished units retreating and a cannon had misfired and blown up. Mat had lost all his cannon crews and a few units.
On territory held and destruction of units the Confederacy had a technical victory. However, with two units retreating Mat's Federals had inflicted slightly more casualties.

Next week we will have another game, most likely on Tuesday.

Nicely painted miniatures. I enjoyed your battle report and accompanying photos. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks Roger, another game is coming up next week. I might use some different units.
DeleteSome impressive looking units on the table! The very nicely painted solid Timpo ACW caught my eye. Cheers for the view.

I painted most of them in the 80s. Many were the original figures, not recasts. They are slightly brittle now and I had one real casualty of a figure breaking off its base but I'll Super Glue it back.
DeleteYes, nice painting. I have a lot of these figures, too. But your paint schemes are better than mine. I just painted mine willy-nilly. Please post some more pics of these soldiers when you get a chance. --Gary in Texas
ReplyDeleteThanks Gary.
DeleteThose charging Timpo were among the first ACW figures I painted, back in the 80s. I go for a unifying paint scheme but usually with some variation, at least for Confederates. I have four or five units of these as Confederates and one painted as Union, although I have also used those for the Spanish American War - not exactly the right equipment but passable. The other thing is they appear to be left handed! I also double their use as Texans in the Texan War of Independence. Our next game is scheduled for next Tuesday so there will be more pics.
