Confederacy Slaughters Cortesian Army

In the Spring of 1889 Cortesian forces under General Maduron clashed with Confederate States of Ameriga forces under General Mathews. The Cortesians were mostly militia or irregulars whilst the Confederates were mostly highly motivated volunteers. The majority were country boys from Texas, mostly skilled marksmen.

This was a rare occasion when I did not lead Confederate side. Mat won the roll off to force me to set up fist and i won the roll off to go first except... General Maduron was still abed with his young mistress and no-one dared to wake him so the army remained stationary for two moves.

SPECIAL RULES
We used an adaptation of Funny Little Wars. The Cortesians are based on Army Lime-Green and, obviously, a fictional version of Mexico. At the start of the game the Cortesian player had to roll a dice and on a '1' the general would be 'indisposed' for D3 moves, meaning the army could not move forward. However, due to the personality cult the general had more chance of enhancing leadership tests. he could also shoot unit officers to ensure compliance.

The CSA had the 'Rebel Yell' which could be used once in the battle. it meant each charging or advancing unit got D6 extra movement in inches and a plus one bonus for each man's dice roll in combat. However, most casualties were from shooting and mat did not use this advantage. Also, volunteer units (as with Army Red White and Blue) was of unknown quality. As soon as it shot, was in melee or had to take a morale test a dice would be rolled to show if they were green, average or veteran quality. it turned out that all Mat's troops were average.

The Cortesians did shoot off a couple of rounds from their filed pieces but they flew high. The Confederates replied with their quick firing pieces and gradually destroyed a unit of enemy regulars and a gun battery.

  COURSE OF BATTLE.

The game went for fourteen moves with the Cortesians losing a number of units. At the end of battle there was a full unit of militia, a much diminished regular unit and a unit of mounted infantry to keep company the general staff. Mat lost only one unit although four of his units were seriously depleted., Mat controlled two table quarters and I had one.

NOTES ON FIGURES

I didn't get around to completing many late 19th century Confederates. However, the unit with fictional Confederate flag are AIP Spanish. Most of the Confederates are from the 1860s period.

We are planning anothergame late next week.
