The Last Battle For Dread Island & The looming Battle For the Stellar Republic

Last battle report, you will recall, Dracos, the vampire,

withdrew with ten zombies, into the heart of some jungle. This left o choice for the Beersteiners but to send troops in. The missing regiments also reappeared although the tricorne regiment with the archbishop arrived too late to participate.

The artillery was placed on a hill overlooking the jungle but no target presented itself. The Grenadiers and the Bastards entered the forest, the former being first to contact. The Tower regiment entered later but exchanged some blows with the Undead.

Wizard Axel cast a spell which weakened the vampire and his minions but it was of temporary duration. Dracos replied with his own spell which struck Axel dead. (He has one life left).

Julius, the priest, shakes his club in the direction of the Undead. Then he makes a Crumble Undead prayer but it is not heard.

The Undead await the soldiers.

The artillerymen can see no targets.

General Aaron Opel rallies the Tower regiment to move towards the Undead. A stray terrier, thought to have been a survivor of a ship wreck, follows him.

A black terrier, thought to have survived a shipwreck and hid from the Undead, joins General Opel, who later took the mutt back to Beerstein.

The Grenadiers are first to melee with the vampire and the zombies. The Vampire inflicts casualties.

Then there was one. The vampire's zombies are no more but he fights on against overwhelming odds as three units of Beersteiners shove their bayonets in his general direction.

Finally the fiend falls having failed to regenerate the latest wounds. The priest soon comes to sprinkle Holy Water on him and his body turns to ash.

BODY COUNT

UNDEAD -wiped out

BEERSTEIN - 16 casualties among the Grenadiers; 7 were fit enough to soon return to duty. graves were dug for the rest. That leaves a total 0r 17 grenadiers. No other units suffered casualties.

Axel, the wizard, struck down, apparently dead, but he will recover.

Hero, Falk Sirum, still unconscious from the earlier battle.

OTHER ISLANDS

KONG ISLAND. This small island has been claimed by a small force of Beersteiners. The substantial Fezian/Bogavanian fleet arrived after the Beersteiner flag was hoisted. Diplomacy won out - in favor of Beerstein. However, the Beersteiners are yet to contact the natives or to meet the perilous wildlife...

NOTE: 4 sailors and 4 infantrymen were, before even landing on the island, struck down by a mystery disease. They coughed themselves to death.
Forces: 2 infantry units, including grenadiers, light bowmen mounted mercenaries, 2 cannons, General Zachary Bernstoff and Linus, the priest.

THE STELLAR REPUBLIC

A Fezian fleet has arrived at the Stellar Republic. The Stella lookouts have informed the three settlements and preparation for defence has been made. The invaders are moving inland to attack the capital.

STELLAR FORCES:
General and hero with cavalry
Army A: 4 Heavy cavalry units (with breast plates).
Army B 2 Cannons
Army C: Militia infantry, Regular infantry, Elite Infantry, all with matchlock muskets

FEZIAN FORCES
General Heavy armor and pistol
Wizard with Lore of Heavens
2 heroes heavy armor and pistols
2 Infantry units with plate armor
3 Light  Infantry units, one with spears, others with swords and shields.
2 units of short-bows
1 unit of Flintlock infantry
1 Siege cannon

(Fezia also has sailors it can decide to employ on land but this would leave ships unmanned).

The Stellans are outnumbered but might be able to exploit their use of cavalry and more numerous firearms. Both sides cannons can fire only every second turn. Some of the Stellans force will be in reserve. The Fezians have a potentially deadly advantage with its wizard.

As usual when Mat faces a non-Beersteiner force I'll take up the organising of the third party force, in this case the Stellans.
