Workbench Fantasy Figure Conversions April 2026 Aztec and Musket Men
One of my op shop expeditions I returned with yet another Hulk figure, this one smaller than the others and a different style. Now he has Green Stuff long pointed ears and nose as well as a spare axe.
After a white spray undercoat I gave him a crimson wash and speckled some rotting flesh color.
Oh and that is a gigantic plastic asparagus plant behind him and the rocks were obtained on camping trips.
The space guy, below, was part of a set with the same helmets. I did not change him other than to give him a card base. The pistol looks like a Browning semi-automatic but is probably meant to be a 'ray-gun'.
In the meantime, I wanted some more Aztec- headed musket-men. What's that, Aztecs did not have firearms? Well, yes, on our world but this is New Earth and the Aztecs are from Aztecia. Having fled a Fezian invasion and a civil war, these fellows ended up on the island of the Stellar Republic and were promptly conscripted, along with some other stray Amerindians. They ight well face Fezians again.
Left to right; crocodile and jaguars.
Below left: Eagle knight, although he looks a bit like a parrot.
I like the animal head additions. A few years ago I added them to some barbarians/Vikings. The Aztecs made the wooden helmets to look like the man had been swallowed by the creature. I didn't go for the whole animal 'Knights' look. Instead i just had a scattering of the new headdresses among my regular Stellar musket men.
It is possible tat in a new war between Fezia and Aztecia some of the Aztecs could have learned to use muskets, in which case I'd possibly make more of them.
I am also thinking of some ancient Romans with firearms for the nation of Patra. I'd be tempted to make molds of Timpo Roman heads and transplanting them on these ECW figures and also later types.
I might also make some 1th and 19th century troops (perhaps just officers) with metal animal shaped helmets. That is the beauty of fantasy as it is not really much constrained by historicity.
