Eclectic Workbench projects For May 2026
I decided to rummage through one of my unfinished projects lots and to finish them!
First up: I had a broken Cherilea British mine sweeper. It was missing the broken off mine detector. As I began repairing it the head snapped off and the legs! Was it worth the bother? Well it was a challenge, so I decided to persevere. I made the sweeper from wire and a button with hole drilled near the edge of it. I copied, fairly closely, the original colors of the manufacturing paintwork. I added slightly more detail on the face but went with a traditional toy soldier style. The card base was added to reduce chances of further breakages.
I have been meaning to paint some ninjas. I think I could come up with some infiltration rules for them.
Top left: Two Technolog barbarians and Italeri Mongol to add to existing units. below them the head of a Temu nurse is showing.
Starlux French sailor missing weapon.he could be manning a machinegun. The nurse is at right. I just realized I did not make a complete photo of her but you will see ehr in the enxt post. I accidentally broke off her leg trying to make a mold to make copies, so i extended her dress to the ground.
Here is another resin figure (copy of Charbens grenadier) which did not come out complete so I repaired it and I am currently painting it.
Britains hollow-cast Belgian cavalryman with replacement arm
A friend on Facebook posted me these resin copies of Timpo American cavalry. I am going to paint them as Confederates.
I had a broken Alan a Dale so cut him in half and repaired the instrument with a matchstick. I added the seated part from a Hon Kong WW2 figure and a sword scabbard. He will sit on a wagon. I got that idea from another collector, Steve Wardle.
Here are all the figures, including the nurse which you can zoom into. The two smaller semi flat 18th century figures will join my munchkin army. The Arab is a home casting made by my old friend, Dave Bryant. He was missing his arms and firearm so I added a DSG spare.
These two figures re among my more 'eccentric'. At left is a How to Train Your Dragon figure. I added beard, weapon (taken from a Warhammer fantasy figure), wooden shield and card base. I have since thickened his legs with Green Stuff. I wanted to use him as a dwarf but he is a tad too tall. He bares some resemblance to my wargaming pal, Matt.
The right-hand figure is from my favourite cheapo modern infantry set. He is less realistic than his fellows but in this case actually like that. His arms are too long and heavily muscled. His clothes are skintight. I especially like the helmet with goggles. He did not have a gun so i added one from the spares box. The 2000 AD British comics had a spinoff called 'Rogue Trooper'. Two major interplanetary corporations duked it out with such troopers. Those blokes were genetically engineered for better battlefield resilience and for some reason they had blue skin.
