WW2 Skirmish Game
The French village of Verne is held by a small British force but German infantry from the North East and South West arrive to try to take the town. The Brits are waiting for an American force of three Shermans and infantry to strengthen their position but the Germans are expecting reinforcements of a small infantry force and two Tigers.
The game with Mat was a skirmish game; I wrote the rules in half an hour before the game. Each figure rolls a dice to determine hits.
The British defended Village of Verne, (I didn't have time to add the roads).
Germans occupy the church.
Brits held out in this ruined two story building to the bitter end.
A German grenade thrower took care of the Brits in this building
The Brit mortar crew caused some casualties until a German flame thrower took it out. The German was then shot from Brits in the nearby building (prior to the grenade).
German armour made a difference so if I had located them in time I would have given the Allies more Shermans. I don't have a huge range of toy or model tanks and wanted to keep the varieties simple. The damage to them was based on the older 40K rules with front, side and rear armour, hull points and a damage table.
In the end the Germans won against Mat's Allies as they controlled or disputed more buildings. The town was still in dispute after 13 moves. The Germans didn't do well at first, with one of my mortars killing three of their own soldiers! Ironically, we used a medieval catapult for actually shooting dice from mortars.

Looks a great game. I like the way you have photographed it. The church is quite spectacular.

That church was a lucky find in a secondhand shop a few years ago. It is ceramic. Thanks, as always, for your comments.
