Bogavania Invades Ozzz Round 2

Two days ago Mat and I played the Bogavanian invasion of Ozzz a second time. This time I commanded the Bogavanians. The Bogavanians had nearly half their army in reserve and had to deploy along two thrds of the board edge only.

We did our dice roll for weather and, usefully, for my army's matchlocks, there was no rain.

Mat lost the roll off to see who set up first but won the roll to go first. My plan was to hold a defensive line on my right. and advance deep into enemy territory on my left. As it happened my level 4 sorceress on my left flank used some devastating magic on the Winkie army. She was using the Lore of Death and managed to single out a single figure, the Winkie witch. In fact she killed her and when her army rolled for the result it retreated off the field!

As it happened The Wizard who was in reserve, then arrived withnhis Munchkin army to replace the Winkies and soon after Glinda arrived on the other side of the filed to reinforce the centre.

Then the sorceress cast the Purple Orb spell. This was an ongoing spell and sent the orb, for three turns, careening through Mat's Munchkins and Quadlings, narrowly missing killing the Wizard and Glinda.

Meanwhile my mounted knights headed for the left flank, their mission to reach the enemy deployement edge and also to hold up any enemy advance. In this they succeeded.

My forces, at fist avided the centre, due to the deployment of Gillikin artillery and the resnce of the Gillikin witch. However after successes on both flanks my reserve cacalry, not least the elite Winged Lancers chaged towards the enemy. The Giilikin Witch hurled thunderbolts that decimated the ranks of the Lancers but they continued with their pitiful numbers to charge the wirche's bodyguard.

Meanwhile my heavy foot knights ushed through forest to flank the witch.

On my right flank things started to go awry as disciolined enemy musketry and cannons decimated my musket men.

Below: Bogavanian matchlock men observe the enemy in the distance. Not the variety of clothing styles but the Bogavanian blue is mainly ahered to.

Winkie forces opposite my Bogavanain right wing.
My knights on my left move to the right end of the field.
After the Winkie army retreats off the board the Wizard arrives and sends in the scarecrows. They cause a few wounds with their attack crows but then the sorceress casts spell diminishing their leadership level and they refuse to assault; this leaves them in position to receive volledy after volley. Although many musket balls pass through their straw bodies without affect, eventually they are seriously reuced and forced to retreat.
                                                 The Wizard's genadiers take position.
The Maiden of Bogavania flag is proudly waved.
Gillikin wolf pack and skeltons advance to intercept my forces.
My mounted knights attempt to out-flank the enemy.
The arrival of Bogavanian reserves crowds the centre. Another sorceress has also arrived.
Munchkin forces were reduced by the Purple Orb but are still formidable.
The Bogavanain general shelters behind some cottages.
Winged Hussars charge and the artillery prepare.
An already reduced medium knight unit engages Munckin cavalry.
The Giilikin witch is protected by her mounted guard and skeletons as she sends fire balls at the Winged Hussars.
An unfortunate deer has been felled by a stray musket ball.
Wolves, led by a three headed beast engage the Bgavanian mounted knights but are saughtered.
A skeleton regiment fails to catch the enemy mounted knights whose mission is to sweep behind the enemy.
The mounted knights avoid the slow moving dwarfs.

                                                                Gillikin artillery
Quadling infantry. In front of them is the hot air balloon which is shot down by flaming attacks from the newly arrived Bogavanian enchantress.

Dorothy Gale's militia (and her pet talking chicken).
Badly mauled Bganaina musket men rally around the flag.
Charlestick the 23rd directs matters from behind the cover of some cottages.
                                                                Bogavania's finest

The Gillikin witch and her guard
Bogavanian mounted knights run rings around the enemy.
Closing phase, Bgavanian knights close in on Dorothy and the Munchkin and Quadling musket men.
                                                   Decimated Bogavanian musket men.
Glinda the Good with her guard

A blood stain bares mute witness to the fallen musket men.
'I wish I was in Kansas!'

Death of a witch. Her remnant army then advanced no further.

The Wizard sadly surveys the decimated remnants of his Munchkin grenadiers.
The Quadling greandiers ares still strong. A petrified rabbit stares at them.

CONCLUSION

This was a game which had many twists and turns which ended in a Bogavanian victory as they possessed two table quarters and disputed two. Hwwver, in terms of casualties is was very touch and go. if the game had gone longer than the 13 moves the Ozzzralites had more fire power but it would depend if they could avoid the rapidly closing knights.

NEXT GAME

Dark Elves invade Ozzz! This is still a couple of weeks away due to the number f paint jobs and conversions required and some non toy sldier activities taking up time!
