Mars, German Home Guard: Just Who Do you Think You Are Kidding, Mr Churchill...

I couldn't resist that little comparison, although the comparison is mostly based on the fact that these people are the last line of defence and can include old men, children and women. Of course, if Germany had won the war people might be watching some very different TV shows.

The female is a nice touch and has been made a little smaller than the men.
The man firing his rifle had a deformed left eye so n one figure I painted it as covered with a bloody dressing and on the other one a black eye patch.

Here are some size comparisons: First an old Britains and...

                                                  ...here an Airfix American

I painted the figures mainly in uniforms but with some civilian touches. There is also a figure with a Lewis Gun which I have lost, hopefully temporarily.

The Mars range is interesting for covering subjects not usually covered. Although WW2 has been 'done to death' by model and toy companies it is generally the frontline regular troops.

The sculpting is generally very good, my main criticism being that the hands are very small compared to bodies. The other thing is that although called 1/32 they are nudging a large 1/35. However, because of their small size they would not look out of place next to true 1/35 figures and AFVs.

  1. Interesting post, Q. Have also thought about getting these figures for my collection.
