Timpo And Other Mexicans
I promised someone to showcase my Timpo Mexican lancers. These were conversions I did over twenty years ago. They have seen several battles. Originally they were intended for the Mexican War and are based on an illustration I saw in the Osprey book on the topic. They are irregular cavalry and did have the skull and crossbones pennants. The figures were made from a combination of Timpo Mexicans, Airfix cowboys and some other odds and ends.
I decided to go for broke and have included some other pics of various brands, conversions and Mexicans from various wars.
BELOW: Althoigh the pennants are historical the flags are fictitious and came from The Virtual Armychair General. They are meant to go with the Funny Little Wars two (North and South) imagi-nation Armies Lime Green that I call Cortesia (after Hernando Cortes instead of the Mexica.
The figures originally meant to be Mexican War had their bandoleers removed (as they were not worn in the 1840s and were later 19th century). The figure waving rifle is an unaltered Detail Mexican from the cowboy set. The figure with head turned is a conversion of a Detail figure. The horses are Detail.
The flag bearer has a non Timpo head.

Mexican Revolution era from BMC Spanish American War figures. Mexican troops wore all kinds of hats. Boers are another source for figures from this time.
Mexican War (or was it Texan Revolution - I'd need to check my sources?) Mexican cavalry converted from Hat Napoleonics
Mexican and Irish mercenary (from Charbens)
Mexico had a number of wars that are a rich mine for figure conversion. The ones I cover are the Texan Revolution, Mexican War, Mexican Adventure and Mexican Revolution. That is 70 odd years of wars. There were also wars with the Indians.
My wargames often feature the semi-fictional nation of Cortesia and its factions, which gives me an excuse to mix units from various real wars.
