Must Be an Angel

I was looking at a Warhammer 40K Chaos tank that had angels statues added - a bit puzzling given that Chaos are the bad guys.

Anyhow, my mind went into spin and I imagined Beersteiner 1/32 steam tanks (probably from a later period than what our campaign is in now) with blessed angel statues attached. These would provide protection from magic attacks.

Then again, my angels could just be stand alone bronze, gold or marble statues or actual angels! So I searched the Internet and did not find anything really suitable. Most angel statues were too big for what I wanted but I did order three 'over-sized' ones.

Then it hit me - make my own. I was thinking of using a generic female civilian figure to add wings and drapes to or even to make one completely from scratch. Then I remembered my resin copies of  ElastoWit's Ming's daughter, Princess Aura!

I just needed to trim off the crown and collar, add a few drapes over the bare belly, some long hair, wings and to remodel the arms and hands to hold a sword. The split pin, suitably ground down on the grinding wheel served as a sword. I might also add a scabbard.

Of course, this angel follows the idea of a beautiful human shape. I'm told that some Biblical descriptions of angels have them quite grotesque, with, for example, multiple eyes. Also, sword wielding angels are, I think, usually male. That suggests another possibility - knights in plate armor with added wings.

As I would like to have half a dozen of these, I am going to make a mold. I will do bronze, gold and marble statues. I might leave some unpainted, so they look transparent. Others I'll paint with white drapery and gold or multicolored wings.
