Bogavanian Recruits For the Primordia Island Expedition and a Painting Saga.

As mentioned in an earlier post, I could have just used another AWOI unit but I was fixated on painting these AIP War of 1812 figures so spent some 12 hours on 24 figures starting Tuesday. That is about half an hour per figure. They are very close to finished, close enough to be used in today's game.

Along side them are some Bogavanian knights as many of the Bogavanian colonels, generals and, indeed, the king, are very retro. Even as the army is modernized the knights and various heroes have insisted on retaining their armor.

The hot glue did not hold some figures to their card bases, prompting me to revisit them with Super Glue.

The bases are a mix of two figure and one figure which is a compromise between quick setting up and movement and the ability to position figures for situations where they need to be scattered or sent guarding POWs and so on.

I still need to paint the cuff buttons. How many are there on 1812 American infantry?  I guess I can Google it. By the way, the officer has a glob of hot glue on his arm, which has since been removed without mishap.

These figures had a plastic spray undercoat but as I held them, some bits of paint came off the legs so I had to repaint those spots. No, I don't place figures on a special base for painting as how practical would that be for painting 24 figures? It would also be another step making the process more time consuming than it already is. Once I add the Modge Podge overcoat and crystal Spray fixative they will be fairly resistant to paint loss.

Some figures have yet to have their irises painted. I have a steady hand and don't find eye painting too hard. I paint the eye area dark brown then either paint the off white either side of where the iris will be or entirely fill the area, ideally with some brown edging left above for eyelashes and paint the irises with dots, usually to the center but sometimes to the sides. If they are shooting there is an option of having the one eye open and the other just a line of brown (black for darker races). The eye colors I mainly use are dark brown and medium blue. Then I can edge flesh color up to the eye if the eyes are too big.

I also have to add the metal bands on the muskets.

I did research the colors for the units in case I ever want them representing historical ones. Here, of course, they are part of the imagi-nation of Bogavania.

Today's battle is not over yet and the Fezian plate armored infantry are battling a brontosaurus (I don't know if they are still called that). The dinosaur has lost one of its six wounds. The men have lost a growing number of casualties squashed under the beast's feet. Their armor has been no help at all. A second behemoth is on its way. The rest of the army has been foiled by being unable to crossing fast flowing, deep river and are turning back to the initial river crossing.

The Fezians also began shooting at the beasts, so far with little effect. The heavy rain first reduced shooting to 3/4 and now to 50%.

  Further reports will follow.
