Bargain Box Of Plastic Army Men, SF And Monster In My Pocket
A month ago a lady advertised that she had a box of toy soldiers to give away on her nature strip! As she lived a few hundred kilometers from me I offered to pay her $10 for them if she could hold them for a few weeks.
Included were 40 odd fantasy type figures in rubbery plastic and the most collectible of the haul. I did a survey of Ebay and saw them averaging between $5 and $10 each. Quite apart from that they are fascinating, imaginative figures.
Below are the army men type figures with the usual clones of Airfix WW2 and also more modern figures.
A couple of large jointed action figures
The jeep size is about right but where do the passengers and driver's legs go?
The Hulk is going to be converted into a ghoul. The other two will become dinosaur riders.
Some of the figures are a fair bit smaller than 54mm and are material for conversions for my Ozzz armies - Gillikins and Munchkins.
These taller figures I can't place as copies of anything in particular but they are flat as pancakes.
Australian infantry scaled up to about 45mm from 20mm figures.
A very unusual copy of an Airfix German
The box everything came in
The figures below are good copies of Airfix WW2 Americans. I like the advancing figure as it is easy to convert into later 19th century and 20th century troops.
The monster emerging from a cauldron would be good for a scene with wizard or witches. The other figures would be good in fantasy armies. The scorpion man, purple figure and mummy would be good in multiples. The figure with antelope headdress would make a good sorcerer.
The third top figure would make a good Spirit Host. The second top could be a Moorlock.
The lion with scorpion tail would make a good statue.
The main issue with the Monster in my pocket figures is they don't easily retain paint. An undercoat of PVA and also an overcoat of PVA is how I treated MIMP figures in the past.
I think those Australians will be convincing mercenaries to go along with your UN and Congolese troops. What brand are they?
ReplyDeleteThey are upscaled in China from 1/72. They are a bit small next to 54mm figures. The original figures were English, I think,
